Introduction to Uncertainty Budgets
1
Uncertainty budgets are a requirement of the "ISO/IEC 17025 TESTING AND CALIBRATION LABORATORIES" standard.  When you send your measurement equipment out for calibration your calibration service provider will provide you with an uncertainty for all measurements used to validate the measurement capability of your equipment.  "Uncertainty budgets" are the method used to calculate these uncertainties.  Come job Paul Harbath as he describes how uncertainty budgets are calculated and helps us understand why it matters to us.

Paul Harbath is an industry professional with 35 years in quality (29 of those years as a member of ASQ).  Paul's organization, Operation Excellence Services, specializes in helping small organizations implement "advanced quality management systems" and "advanced continuous improvement."

In 2010, while working at Ophir-Spiricon, Paul implemented ISO/IEC 17025 for their laser power meter calibration services.  During the implementation, Paul learned the basics of measurement uncertainty.  Come join Paul while he shares his experiences of using measurement uncertainty.
