Community Guidelines

Thank you for being part of our community. To ensure the best possible experience for all members, participation guidelines have been established. Please take a moment to acquaint yourself with these important guidelines.

myASQ’s key purpose is to provide a secure, professional, collaborative environment where all members can feel confident to engage with fellow members on topics relating to the profession. Everyone is encouraged to join in the conversation and start new discussions, including sharing your successes, challenges, constructive feedback, questions, and goals with other members, all with a professional lens. By joining and using this community, you agree that you have read and will follow these rules and guidelines. You also agree to reserve discussions, shared files, and content that are best suited to the medium.

To ensure a safe and secure environment that promotes constructive and respectful dialogue, the American Society for Quality (ASQ) reserves the right to suspend or terminate access to this community for anyone who violates these guidelines, jeopardizing the well-being of the community. Please see the Compliance and Enforcement section for additional details.

The Rules

This online community is dedicated to discussions on quality-related topics and contributing to the collective body of knowledge for the benefit of ASQ members. ASQ will occasionally post topics that are pertinent to all members, that are informational about operations, and of a time-sensitive nature. Outside those posts, myASQ is not a forum for customer service inquiries, discussions or grievances about ASQ operations; members are encouraged to contact the membership team directly for assistance. Posts should align with the community's purpose and maintain a professional tone. To ensure that the dialogue remains relevant and constructive, ASQ reserves the right to review and remove any posts that do not meet these standards.

Don't challenge or attack others. The discussions and comments are meant to stimulate conversation, not to create contention. Let others have their say, just as you may.

Do not post commercial messages on any discussion list, resource library entry, or other area where others might see it. Contact people directly with product and service information if you believe it would help them.

myASQ will be used as specified in Society policies to post official announcements about Society elections or votes. Community members shall refrain from using myASQ for activities related to the ASQ Board of Directors or other Society elections, including posting discussions, blogs, and direct messages, unless explicitly authorized in writing.

Use caution when discussing products. Information posted on the lists and in the libraries may be available for all to see, and comments are subject to libel, slander, and antitrust laws.

All defamatory, abusive, profane, threatening, offensive, or illegal materials are strictly prohibited. Do not post anything that you would not want the world to see or that you would not want anyone to know came from you.

Be Respectful and Professional- We expect all members to communicate in a professional, respectful, and friendly tone. Remember that tone can be hard to read online—assume good intent, be constructive in disagreements, and avoid sarcasm or language that could be interpreted as dismissive, aggressive, or unkind.

Remember that other participants have the right to reproduce postings to this site unless you specify otherwise.

Post your message or documents only to the most appropriate lists or libraries. Do not spam several lists or libraries with the same message.

Please note carefully all items listed in the legal information below, particularly regarding the copyright ownership of information posted.

Belonging, Accessibility, and Inclusion Guidelines

Ensure your posts, comments, and interactions reflect inclusivity, demonstrating respect for individuals of all cultural, racial, ethnic, gender, age, socioeconomic backgrounds, and abilities.

Strive to create an environment where everyone feels welcome and valued.

Treat all members with courtesy, kindness, and empathy, regardless of differing opinions, experiences, or perspectives. Approach discussions with an open mind and a collaborative spirit, recognizing that diverse viewpoints enrich the conversation.

Refrain from sharing content or making comments that are offensive, harmful, or dismissive of others based on their identity, beliefs, or abilities. Such behavior undermines the sense of community and is not tolerated.

Avoid actions or language that may marginalize or alienate others, intentionally or unintentionally. Instead, foster inclusion by supporting and uplifting all members of the community.

Celebrate and value the unique contributions that each member brings. Diversity strengthens our discussions, drives innovation, and enhances our collective growth.

Group Etiquette

Include a signature tag on all messages. Include your name, affiliation, and location.

State clearly and concisely the topic of your comments in the subject line. This allows members to respond more appropriately to your posting and makes it easier for members to search the archives by subject.

Include only the relevant portions of the original message in your reply. Delete any header information and put your response before the original posting.

Only send a message to the entire list when it contains information that everyone can benefit from.

Send messages such as "thanks for the information" or "me, too" to individuals--not to the entire list. Do this by using the "Reply to Sender" link to the left of every message.

Do not send administrative messages, such as remove me from the list. Instead, use the web interface to change your settings or to remove yourself from a list. If you are changing e-mail addresses, you do not need to remove yourself from the list and rejoin under your new e-mail address. Simply change your settings.

Warn other list subscribers of lengthy messages either in the subject line or at the beginning of the message body with a line that says, "Long Message."
