Quality in Manufacturing System Performance by Herman Tang, Ph.D., Eastern Michigan University
Abstract
In this presentation, Herman will share his understanding of quality in manufacturing performance with his ASQ peers. Through an exploration of the intricate relationship between production performance and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), Herman will highlight both direct influences and subtle impacts, as well as estimating improved OEE. Furthermore, he will discuss quality analysis in manufacturing in both serial and parallel settings. Herman's objective is for quality professionals to adopt a holistic, systemic viewpoint, recognizing the significance of quality in manufacturing performance and understanding how their dedicated work contributes to overall business prosperity.
About the speaker
Dr. Herman Tang is a professor in the School of Engineering at Eastern Michigan University. He has taught nine graduate courses in quality and has overseen the Master of Science in Quality Management program, including the Lean Six Sigma Certificate, since 2015.
Prior to joining EMU, he accumulated over 16 years of experience in vehicle assembly manufacturing at Chrysler (now Stellantis). Dr. Tang has authored four technical books.
He holds a doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan–Ann Arbor, as well as an MBA in Industrial Management from Baker College. An engaged member of ASQ, he currently serves as the Education Chair for the Ann Arbor Section.
