Beyond PDCA: The Sense - Interpret - Decide - Adjust (SIDA) Improvement Cycle

Summary: Modern organizations continue to pursue continuous improvement, yet many remain trapped in cycles of activity without deep learning or lasting system change. In this presentation, Dr. Tsetse introduces the Sense - Interpret - Decide - Adjust (SIDA) Improvement Cycle as a leadership-centered evolution of traditional improvement models. SIDA reframes improvement from a procedural routine into a discipline of awareness, judgment, and system stewardship. It begins with sensing emerging realities, deepens through interpretation of system dynamics, strengthens through disciplined decision-making, and endures through structural adjustment. Drawing on systems thinking, organizational learning, and applied leadership practice, the session presents the conceptual logic of the SIDA framework, illustrates its application in complex environments, and outlines practical pathways for implementation.

Presenter: Dr. David Tsetse, Ph.D.
