Beyond the Black Belt: Building a Healthcare Measurement System from Boardroom to Bedside

When:  Oct 15, 2025 from 06:00 PM to 08:00 PM (ET)
Associated with  Cincinnati Section

In healthcare, measurement is often treated as a technical afterthought—but the wrong measures can quietly stall or even reverse progress. This session introduces a practical, field-tested framework for building a measurement system that works across the entire organization, from boardroom strategy to bedside care.

Drawing on years of healthcare improvement leadership and the advanced expertise recognized by the ASQ CMQ/OE certification, the presenter will show how to align strategic measures, benchmarking data, and statistical process control (SPC) into a single, cohesive system. The session will highlight real-world examples where the right choice of measure revealed meaningful improvement—and where the wrong choice masked or distorted it.

Participants will learn why judgment measures, while valuable for benchmarking, can mislead when applied to SPC; how to select the right analytic method for each level of decision-making; and how to avoid common rule misapplications in run and control charts.

Whether you operate at the executive, service-line, or project level, you’ll leave with actionable principles to design a measurement system that not only supports improvement but sustains it over time.
