Dr. Yvonne Howze 

President/CEO

CYA Consulting Group, Inc.

Bio: Dr. Yvonne Howze is an Executive Coach and Master Trainer. She is the President and CEO of her company, CYA Consulting Group, Inc (CYA). Dr. Yvonne Howze is co-owner of Dental Leadership, LLC, which sponsors the Dental Leadership Academy (DLA) to train dentists and others in the dental profession nation-wide.

 Yvonne earned her doctorate from Vanderbilt University. She completed additional coursework at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill as a Society of Research Fellow.   She is a Senior Member of ASQ, a Kellogg National Leadership Fellow and an Education Policy Fellow. She is a Certified Gallup Clifton Strengths Coach and an American Society for Quality (ASQ) Certified Manager of Quality and Organizational Excellence. Yvonne is a member of ASQ’s Leadership Content Committee, an ASQ Mentor, and a member of the ASQ Austin Section. She is the Team Leader for the ASQ- Baldrige Healthcare team. She has written several blogs and articles on leadership and performance excellence, including a recent article in Quality Press on Focus Groups. She is the author of two recently published books: A Systems Thinking Model for Improving the Education and Training of Performance Excellence, and its Companion Handbook, Toolz You Can Use. Both self-published books teach principles, techniques and tools for organizational and operational improvement.  They are available on Amazon.

Yvonne was Director of Quality and Performance Excellence at the Oklahoma Primary Care Association, serving 22 health clinics across the state.  She was also the Director of Performance Excellence for the Texas Department of Transportation where she oversaw the Workforce Development and Work Life-Balance Divisions serving over 11,000 employees statewide.  She was the Master Trainer for Engineering Operations and conducted leadership development and performance excellence training for more than 200 engineers, and over 300 managers and supervisors statewide.

Additionally, Yvonne worked for the Texas Department of State Health Services as the Section Director responsible for the day-day operations of the Center for Health Statistics and the Bureau of Vital Statistics. Her job entailed ensuring error-free data collection, analysis and reporting of health data to be used by physicians, researchers, and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Dr. Howze worked with vendors to digitize more than 56 million vital records for the state, whereby issuance rate was reduced from 3 or more weeks down to 3 minutes.

She has served in key leadership roles on several national and community-based boards.  She volunteers extensively and provides training to small businesses to increase their profitability, and ensure their sustainability.

Overview:  Leadership has been defined and refined, and there is no single definition that suits everyone or every situation. But there are some basics that everyone in the workplace need to know and this presentation presents concepts, principles, tools and techniques that are easy to understand and to apply.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Describe a Systems Thinking Framework for organizational excellence and understand how leadership fits into it
  2. Align the Systems Thinking Framework with the ASQ Body of Knowledge and the Malcolm Baldrige Performance Excellence Framework©
  3. Understand the differences between leader and leadership, managing change versus leading change, and ways to contribute, not inhibit organizational and personal success
  4. Utilize and apply creative and technical tools to ensure organizational excellence results
  5. Laugh out loud and have FUN!
