In this event we talk about Critical skills for being a good facilitator which is the key to successful Quality Professional.

Summary

Facilitation skills are critical for a successful Quality Professional. We are frequently in situations where we need to lead cross-functional teams of people to determine a root cause of an event, or brainstorm the best process improvement, or discuss any other topic with a desired outcome. Being a good facilitator helps you to achieve the goals and desired outcome of such sessions. In this presentation, I will share some facilitator tips and tricks which I learned at the World Conference on Quality & Improvement this year, plus I'll also share learnings from my own experiences in facilitating large groups.

Rachel Stanford is currently leading the Quality organization for the worldwide Bits & Drilling Tools manufacturing facilities at SLB, a global technology company in the energy industry. Rachel has been working for SLB for 15 years and has held positions in Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, and Quality, across the UK, Asia, and the US.

She started her career as a Field Engineer, working offshore in the South China Sea based out of Malaysia. This operations exposure gave Rachel a firsthand insight into how her products were used and allowed her to leverage this knowledge in her next position as Electronics Engineer to design better products. Rachel spent 2 years in a design role in England, before moving to Houston, Texas as a Reliability Engineer, focused on improving the performance of her products in the field. She was then promoted into Engineering Management, and in 2018 took up the position of Maintenance Manager in Scotland, covering all of Europe. Rachel stepped away from the energy industry for one year to work as a Reliability Engineer at Amazon to obtain exposure in a new industry, before returning to SLB in her current role as global Quality Manager for the Bits & Drilling Tools Manufacturing centers worldwide.

Rachel is originally from Northern Ireland, and holds a Masters degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Queen’s University Belfast (2008). Rachel is an American Society for Quality Certified Reliability Engineer, and also holds the Project Management Professional certification from the Project Management Institute. She is Lean Green Belt certified.

Rachel enjoys supporting young engineers in their career and is passionate about encouraging women into the Engineering field. She founded the “Rachel Stanford Scholarship for Emerging Leaders in Engineering and Computer Science” at Queen’s University, a scholarship aimed at supporting and encouraging female students into STEM subjects.
