This workshop will cover many topics related to the changes to ISO9001:2026.
The revision to ISO 9001:2026 is planned for September 2026. This session is scheduled shortly after publication and will provide timely insight into the revision. With any revision, there is some truth as well as some myths. When reviewing the changes, there will be discussion on those areas of the standard that are affected by the revision and considering what the change means to provide information to avoid myths. Topics will include:
- Update to the revision to the Quality Management Principles (QMPs)
- Review of the revision to the Harmonized Structure (Annex SL) and how the changes affect the revision to ISO 9001.
- Review of what structure and clause changes mean and understanding if a word change modifies the requirement.
- Discussion on the inclusion of terminology in ISO 9001 and review of how to use ISO 9000, the terminology document
- The use of notes to provide clarification and how notes relate to the audit process.
- Understanding application of requirements in the standard through word usage.
- Review of the annex and how to use it.
- Understanding some of the key changes including the clarification related to risks and opportunities, ethics and integrity and quality culture as part of the standard, reference to documented information, continual improvement vs. improvement.
- Review of transition information
The revision provides an opportunity to refresh your quality management system. The session will include discussion on how to use the revision as an opportunity to make improvements. Resources such as TS 9002 and the auditing practices group papers will be reviewed to consider how these can help you with implementing a revision to the standard.
The session will conclude with an extended question and answer period to provide an opportunity to discuss any specific concerns from attendees.
Meet the speaker!
Lorri Hunt has been implementing and auditing quality management systems to ISO 9001 in diverse organizations since 1994. She is an active member of the U. S. Technical Advisory Group to ISO Technical Committee 176 (ISO TC176). She served as an expert from ISO TC176/SC2 to participate on revision of Annex SL, the source document that provides the harmonized structure that includes identical text and definitions from the ISO Directives.
Lorri co-led the team that developed the design specification for ISO 9001:2026. She served on the leadership team for the revision during the first stages of development of the standard. She was a co-convener for ISO 9001:2015, TS9002, and The Small and Medium Enterprise Handbook for Implementing ISO 9001:2015. She also served as the International Deputy Task Group Leader for the ISO 9001:2008 amendment and as the convener for ISO 10007 Configuration Management.
As the head of delegation for ISO TC176/SC2 from 2009-2018, she was responsible for overseeing the development of consensus positions for the United States related to ISO 9001 and ISO 9004.
Lorri is most often recognized for using her extensive experience in standards development and auditing to assist organizations in implementing ISO 9001 using a common sense approach. She is the president of Lorri Hunt & Associates Inc.
Lorri frequently contributes to quality publications and journals and is a co-author to The ISO 9001:2015 Handbook – A Practical Guide to Implementation. She is an ASQ senior member. She is also a frequent speaker at conferences all over the world and an Exemplar Global certified lead auditor.
