Abstract
The world is currently going through the fourth industrial revolution, often called Industry 4.0. Each previous industrial revolution has involved new technologies drastically changing the landscape of how work is done. Steam power, Electricity, and basic mechanical automation were the technologies of the first three revolutions, the fourth is data. New technologies enable us to collect and use data in ways that were previously impossible. Quality 4.0 can be described as the application of these new data capabilities to improve quality performance of an organization. Data has always been a key element to the modern quality discipline, and with newfound capabilities quality can be advanced to higher levels of performance. Many different data applications can be conceptualized in a Quality 4.0 world, but the key challenge of implementation of these applications has been a major hurdle in industry. This presentation addresses some of the most common issues preventing technology deployment while also clarifying the definition of what a Quality 4.0 system truly is to a business, not just as a technological capability.
