PRE-MEETING CLINIC SPEAKER

What is Reliability

Tim C. Adams, Senior Member in ASQ Orlando section 1509, and Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE)

Tim works in the Engineering Directorate at the NASA Kennedy Space Center (KSC). At NASA, Tim has spent almost three decades in Engineering Assurance with an emphasis on quantitative Reliability Engineering and Technical Risk. And for about 20 years, Tim has been the Technical Editor of the “KSC Reliability” web site (https://extapps.ksc.nasa.gov/Reliability/). Tim joined NASA after the Challenger accident in the Mission Operations Directorate (MOD) at the Johnson Space Center (JSC) as a specialist in Human performance technology (HPT). In that role, Tim analyzed and improved the design and delivery of the technical training provided to flight crews (astronauts) and flight controllers.  After MOD, Tim served as JSC’s lead and representative to NASA Headquarters on the Agency initiative to develop program and project managers and supporting business analysts. Prior to moving to KSC, Tim was a Flight Systems Safety Engineer, Reliability Engineer, and Lead of the Analysis and Assessment Methodology Group for the Office of Safety, Reliability, and Quality Assurance.

Dr. Michael Bell

LESSONS LEARNED FROM NASA’s LESSONS LEARNED PROGRAM

Dr. Michael Bell is Chief Knowledge Officer (CKO) for the John F. Kennedy Space Center (KSC). 

Dr. Bell also serves as the Program Manager for NASA’s Lessons Learned Information System (LLIS), a formal continual improvement discipline at NASA.  In these positions,  Dr. Bell promotes and facilitates knowledge collection and sharing.

The formal NASA Lessons Learned system drives NASA’s Continual Improvement with official, reviewed lessons from NASA programs and projects.  NASA’s Lessons Learned are shared publicly starting at this link: https://llis.nasa.gov/.

Dr. Bell joined KSC in 1994 as a management analyst in the human resources directorate. Prior to NASA, Dr. Bell worked in industrial engineering for electronics manufacturing performing quality system audits, designing and managing factory layout projects, and modelling manufacturing simulation.

Dr. Bell has an Industrial Engineering B.S from Northwestern University, an Engineering Management M.S. from the University of Central Florida, and an Industrial Engineering Doctorate from the University of Miami.
