On this one I took the exam after well over a decade of being in medical device and as an Internal & Supplier Auditor. That said another reason to study for and take a professional certification exam is that it is an education in itself and can help you get your foot in the door so you can get a job that will give you the experience.

My method of preparing to take an exam is as follows. I buy the CMDA Handbook & Question Bank through ASQ and the CMDA Primer through the Quality Council of Indiana. - Take the first prep exam in the Question Bank to see where your major deficiencies are with regards to the Body of Knowledge. - Then study the books on those weak sections. As you finish each section take the exam at the end of each section in the CMDA Primer. - After all the sections that were determined to be weak have been studied and tested take the 2nd prep exam in the CMDA Question Bank to ascertain your readiness. - Then study all the other sections and take those Primer tests. - When these are complete take the last prep exam to further refine what you need to brush up on prior to taking the actual exam. By the end of my prep I have usually read the Handbook & Primer twice and tested multiple times over the material. I you work in medical device currently, then look for where and how this applies to what you know as this will help you tremendously as you then understand the application. If you are not currently an auditor at your job, express interest in auditing and the audit process to whoever manages the audit program, through your chain of command.

Another resource is the ASQ CMDA Certification Preparation Course. Tab the book(s) that you plan on taking into the exam with you for quick reference during the exam itself. Best wishes to you!

Many thanks for the detailed response. I have pretty much followed up the strategy that you shared. I am yet to take my third ASQ CMDA test. Are the ASQ CMDA test questions representative of the ones in the exam. Also, should I be preparing MDD or MDR regulation? I see that the CMD handbook prescribes MDR but the questions in the ASQ CMDA were from MDD.

Thanks Trish for sharing the past discussion. I did read that post and found it helpful.

Refer to the current Body of Knowledge to see what the exam covers. The ASQ questions may take years to get updated. You can get questions and answers for the current exam from the Indiana Quality Council's Solution Text.

Thank David for responding to my post. I did take my certification exam on 18th Mar and successfully passed the same. I must say that the Indiana quality council primer needs some revision especially now that MDR regulation is widely used. Also, the Indiana test bank questions did not seem very representative of the exam questions. But I used both the primer and the ASQ test bank to prepare for this exam. As someone who has zero knowledge in audit and also new to regulatory area this exam was very good learning experience. Plus I challenged myself to prepare for this exam in just 2 months. Overall, I have learnt so much just my reading regulations now time to put them into action.

@Geethapriya Setty - Congratulations! That's wonderful news.

The Indiana Quality Council is not part of ASQ, so for the latest and most accurate study materials it's best to use ASQ's BoK. I'm glad you found it useful.

Best of luck with your new cert!
