Preparing for CSSBB

Posted by Henry Mensah on Jul 26, 2018 10:20 am

All,

I would like to get a feedback on getting certifications. I have a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Masters degree in Engineering Management, ASQ CSSGB, ASQ CQE and preparing for ASQ CSSBB. The question I have is how many certifications are too many?. I really do enjoy learning which drives me to do something new every time. Do I actually need all this certifications? Honest feedbacks are welcome.

Hello Henry.
No number of certifications is too many. If you love to learn then why deprive yourself of that? However, maintaining all of the certs / recertifying may be a different matter entirely.

Thanks Kevin. I'm an active ASQ section member at Fort Worth Texas. I do go to their meetings and also having a full time job would help me with recertification.  Thanks for the feedback though.

Hi Henry, you can never have enough certifications.  They help you keep fresh in what is going on in the Quality community as well as provide a richer experience if you decide to participate in some of the certification activities.  The Certification committee is always looking for people to help with the exam either in item writing, exam review or item review.  It is a great way to meet others with similar interests as well as to grow in your knowledge of the field.

Henry Mensah‍, I agree with James Bossert‍ and Kevin Manglos‍ that there is no such thing as too many certifications. As long as you are able to maintain them all, you might as well be recognized for your knowledge. After all, some day it might just the thing that gives you the edge over someone else. Hooray for synchronization!

I met a man at an ASQ function who makes a point of getting new certifications every couple of years just to give him that extra professional edge.
