The September 2022 meeting of our section will be a tour of the W. M. Keck Center for 3D Innovation at UTEP. It’s a place doing amazing world-class research that most people in our region haven’t heard about.
RSVP Required before Sept 20 Click HERE to submit your RSVPYou may have heard the September 2, 2022, announcement about the $40 million federal grant to grow aerospace and manufacturing capabilities here in the Paso del Norte region. The Keck Center is an important part of the success in winning the grant. It has been one of the world’s leading research facilities in additive manufacturing (more commonly known as 3D printing) for about 20 years.
I toured it a few years ago and the technology was amazing. I’m looking forward to seeing the advances that the Keck Center has made. They are doing so much that they actually have a facility off campus near Downtown to house some of their large-scale work.
Our host, Dr. Francisco Medina, Director of Technology and Engagement for the Keck Center, has asked that we provide an expected attendance count on September 20 so that they can accommodate us and provide a positive experience. The tour will be Tuesday, September 27 at 5:30 PM. Please arrive a little early as traffic and parking can take a few extra minutes.
There is paid parking lot at the intersection of Schuster Avenue and Hawthorne Street. (If you want to program your map, the address is 1757 Hawthorne St, El Paso, TX 79902) The Keck Center is a short walk (about a block) up Hawthorne Street on the UTEP campus. The Keck Center is in the Engineering Building on the ground floor in room 108.
