Innovation in Action - Events of Note
Hitting the I-Spot: Innovation Through the Lens of Ikigai
Presented by Mr. Dan Zrymiak, ASQ Fellow and Quality Evangelist
Thursday, December 01, 2022
7:00 – 8:00 PM Eastern
An Innovation in Action Series
Description: Ikigai is a Japanese Concept meaning “a reason for being”. This is derived by posing the questions of what a person loves, what the world needs, what the person is good at, and what they can be paid for. Through these intersections, the passion, mission, vocational, and professional aspects can be determined. Using a similar lens, Innovation can be refined as the intersection of similar drivers (i.e. User Satisfaction and Delight, Awareness and Knowledge, Transactional Benefits, and Technological Advancement). By elaborating on the intersections of these drivers, a pathway toward an integrated series of innovations can be developed that addresses and improves upon the status quo from multiple perspectives. This will be demonstrated with examples from product development and service provision.

How a WE Culture can drive Innovation
Presented by Ms. Luciana Paulise, CEO, MBA, ASQ CQE, Agile Coach and Certified Scrum Master
Friday, January 27, 2023
12:00 – 1:00 PM Eastern
An Innovation in Action Series
Description: In the age of continuous evolution, especially after Covid-19, leaders need to learn new skills to drive innovation more organically. Before the pandemic, most leaders were expected to be in charge. Suddenly, the shift to a remote workforce and a more volatile environment posed tremendous challenges for them. Command and control practices that promote a “me” culture are no longer as effective. Only a WE culture can help leaders and team members thrive in a changing environment. Through changing certain patterns and behaviors at work, leaders will find new ways to care for their people while improving innovation and quality. With practical examples from real companies, attendees will learn simple tips today to apply at work on Monday.

Recorded Session
A Business Case for Cultivating Purpose
Presented by Ms. Ciara Ungar
Recorded: Thursday, November 10, 2022
7:00 – 8:00 PM Eastern
An Innovation in Action Series
Description: As Future Focused leaders, we’re always thinking about a Strategic Direction that directly ties to how we create and build Culture. Building a culture that creates a sustainable workforce and business growth, however, starts and ends with cultivating purpose. Although a trending discussion among leadership circles in today’s landscape, cultivating purpose is vastly misunderstood in both its potential lasting impact and deep-rooted activities. Cultivating purpose within your organization and among your leaders is a critical foundation to create for any business looking to grow. This presentation discusses the core components of cultivating purpose to contribute to your bottom line, across three layers: Behavior, Culture, and Accountability. We will explore the different attributes and impact of traditional leadership compared with purpose-based leadership and how we can employ effective approaches to cultivating culture.
If you missed Ms. Ciara Ungar's session on "A Business Case for Cultivating Purpose", you are able to access the recording, review a copy of the presentation, and offer discussion feedback as to the learning objectives, your experience, and ask any follow-up questions that you may have.
