Abstract:
Large manufacturing companies spend billions of dollars on warranty and product liability lawsuits annually. Warranty, product liability suits, safety recalls, and associated costs could easily be minimized with the proper use of industrial statistical and reliability methods. Many product defect cases are a result of a suboptimal design or unstable manufacturing processes.
This talk presents a product liability case through the eyes of an expert witness. The proper use of measurement systems assessment, statistical process control, designed experimentation, data analysis, and reliability/warranty analysis would have prevented a costly disaster to companies producing architectural building products. The same deficiencies presented here can lead to product liability lawsuits more generally.
