Hybrid event : Quality in the age of AI, what are the actual trends
(Événement hybride: La qualité et l'age de l'IA, les tendances actuelles)

Le mercredi soir 29 janvier 2025, 30 participants ont eu le privilège d’assister en personne ou en virtuel à un séminaire sur l’intelligence artificielle appliquée à la qualité et les tendances associées. De 18h30 à 19h les participants ont pu réseauter sous la supervision de M. Ray DYER en virtuel et de Mme Samira KAZEMI en présentiel, et rencontrer une partie de l’équipe de leadership d’ASQ Montréal. L’ASQ offre 18 certifications pour les professionnels de la qualité et promeut son code d’éthique. Un sondage d’ouverture a révélé le statut des participants, la majorité étant membres de l’ASQ et de la région de Montréal. La présence de quelques personnes non-membres représente un potentiel sûr de recrutement. L’agenda de la soirée a été présenté par Ray et l’accueil en présentiel assuré par Samira.

Notre hôte, M. Jean MASSARDI, PhD, Responsable IA de la firme MIA Innovation et qui possède dix ans d’expérience à MIA Innovation, œuvre au Hub IA, un espace de travail en intelligence artificielle pour les start-ups, principalement des secteurs manufacturiers et pharmaceutiques.

La prestation s’est divisée en cinq parties :

• Qu’est-ce que l’IA : Modèles prédictifs (ex. prévisions), détection de motifs et textes, générative (Chat GPT, Gemini) et optimisation (procédés, chaîne d’appro, route).
• Comment l’IA s’applique à la qualité : Automatisation de tâches cognitives légères, contrôle qualité (triage pass/fail), automatisation des données (ERP), maintenance prédictive.
• La qualité s’applique à l’IA : Ingénierie logicielle, tableau de bord (KPI), apprentissage machine ou MLOps (test automatique, reformation), conception.
• Comment implanter l’IA : Restructurer les données via l’IA (grande réduction du volume), décider du type de projet (adoption – i.e. solution existante, intégration (40k-250 k$) ou transformation (>250 k$)), identifier le bon projet, effectuer la gestion de projet et le financer.
• Ce qu’on doit améliorer : Résilience (capacité à fonctionner lors de panne), anticiper et rattraper la technologie, validation des modèles avec des outils à définir, gouvernance et gestion des changements.

L’auditoire a été très satisfait de la qualité de la présentation et de la période de questions qui a suivi, que Jean a mené avec enthousiasme et professionnalisme. Les résultats du sondage de la fin témoignent de la satisfaction des répondants, avec un résultat global de 92%.

Finalement, Ray nous a demandé de mentionner les sujets qui nous intéresseraient en 2025 (i.e. VOC) et a prodigué de chaleureux remerciements à M. Jean Massardi pour son intéressante présentation.

On Wednesday evening, January 29, 2025, 30 participants had the privilege of attending in person or virtually a seminar on artificial intelligence applied to quality and related trends. From 6:30 pm to 7 pm, participants were able to network under the supervision of Mr. Ray DYER (virtual) and Ms. Samira KAZEMI (face-to-face) and meet part of the ASQ Montreal leadership team. ASQ offers 18 certifications for quality professionals and promotes its code of ethics. An opening survey revealed the status of participants, the majority being ASQ members and from the Montreal region. The presence of a few non-members represents a definite recruitment potential. The evening’s agenda was presented by Ray and the face-to-face welcome provided by Samira.

Our host, Mr. Jean MASSARDI, who has ten years’ experience at MIA Innovation, works at the AI Hub, an artificial intelligence workspace for start-ups, mainly from the manufacturing and pharmaceutical sectors.

The presentation was divided into five parts:

• What is AI: Predictive models (e.g. forecasting), pattern and text detection, generative (GPT Chat, Gemini) and optimization (processes, supply chain, route).
• How AI applies to quality: Automation of lightweight cognitive tasks, quality control (pass/fail sorting), data automation (ERP), predictive maintenance.
• Quality applies to AI: Software engineering, dashboarding (KPIs), machine learning or MLOps (automatic testing, re-training), design.
• How to implement AI: Restructure data via AI (great volume reduction), decide on project type (adoption – i.e. existing solution, integration ($40k-250k) or transformation (>$250k)), identify the right project, perform project management and finance.
• What needs to be improved: Resilience (ability to function in the event of failure), anticipating and catching up with technology, model validation with tools to be defined, governance and change management.

The audience was very satisfied with the quality of the presentation and the question period that followed, which Jean conducted with enthusiasm and professionalism. The results of the survey at the end testify to the respondents’ satisfaction, with a global score of 92%.

Finally, Ray asked us to mention topics that would be of interest to us in 2025 (i.e. VOC) and extended warm thanks to Mr. Jean Massardi for his interesting presentation.
