ASQ Phoenix Message from the Chair March 2026

Hello ASQ Phoenix Community,

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our February program. We were pleased to welcome Robert “QualityBob” Mitchell, who presented on designing your quality career. Bob shared thoughtful perspectives on navigating the many paths available within the quality profession and emphasized the importance of continually developing both technical expertise and leadership capability. His discussion highlighted how quality professionals can shape their careers across many industries while continuing to create meaningful impact.

In addition to our monthly programs, the section continues to expand learning opportunities through our One Point Lesson (OPL) series focused on Statistical Process Control (SPC). The most recent OPL on Descriptive Statistics has been posted in the Phoenix Section Library. These short lessons are intended to provide practical refreshers on key quality concepts and we will continue to build on this series and discuss SPC topics in upcoming meetings.

The Phoenix Section was also well represented at the recent ASQ Lean and Six Sigma Conference, where we hosted a booth to engage with attendees. Thank you to everyone who stopped by to connect with us. We had great conversations with current members, potential speakers, leaders from other sections, and individuals interested in learning more about what the Phoenix Section has to offer.

Looking ahead, I encourage you to join us for our March 12 program featuring Mr. John Lindland, who will be presenting on Concepts of Autonomous Vehicle Safety. With more than 40 years of experience in automotive safety critical design and manufacturing, Mr. Lindland will explore the realities behind autonomous vehicle safety, including functional safety design principles, operational domain definitions, and risk modeling approaches used in modern autonomous systems. This session will provide valuable insight into how safety critical systems are designed and evaluated in increasingly autonomous environments.

The Phoenix Section continues to grow through the engagement and contributions of its members. We are always looking for volunteers who would like to get involved, develop leadership experience, and help support the local quality community. If you are interested in learning more about available opportunities, please reach out to me or any member of the section leadership team.

I appreciate your continued support of the ASQ Phoenix Section. Your participation, ideas, and experience are what make this community strong. I look forward to seeing you at our next meeting and continuing the conversation around advancing quality together.

O'Ryan White
