October 2024 Chair’s Message
Greetings Valued ASQ Phoenix Section Members –
It’s hard to believe we have made it to October already! Not only has this year flown by, the current temperatures in the valley aren’t suggestive of fall weather. I am keeping my fingers crossed that we are experiencing our final heat wave prior to a many months long reprieve. In the meantime, I hope you are finding ways to stay cool until mother nature rights the current weather pattern.
You can beat the heat with other members of the Phoenix Section during our community outreach event in November. We are partnering with St. Mary’s Foodbank on November 9th from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. and will be packing emergency food boxes to assist families in the valley who are dealing with food insecurity, an issue that affects two million Arizonans annually. I have volunteered for this activity several times previously and can attest that it is not only meaningful, it is also a lot of fun. An email will be sent out soon with additional details regarding the event as well as a registration link. I encourage you to sign up and bring your friends and family.
You are also invited to attend the Phoenix Section’s monthly program meeting on October 10th. Steve Gompertz will be presenting on ‘Guerrilla Tactics for Quality Leadership: Getting Things Done Without Formal Authority’. During his presentation, he will discuss methods for engaging your entire team when working to change quality culture. I hope to see you there!
On the 2025 Elected Officers front… we had Phoenix Section members volunteer for every elected position. Because we have no contested elected position, per ASQ governance, no elections are therefore required. The 2025 Officers will be announced in November.
I am also happy to report that we have filled nearly every vacant appointed member leader position on the 2025 ASQ Phoenix Section Leadership Team (SLT)! We still have openings for:
- LinkedIn Group Manager
- Instagram Influencer (looking for a NexGen volunteer)
- Arrangements Chair to coordinate in-person and hybrid events
Until we meet again, I bid you health, happiness, and connectedness.
Cheers,
Hilary Werner
