Position Title: FIELD SERVICE QUALITY ENGINEER

Department: Field Service - Quality Assurance

Reports To: Quality Assurance Manager

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt / Hourly

Job Classification: Full-Time, Safety-Sensitive

Location: NEC Service Center – Columbus Ohio

Shifts Available: 1st Shift, 2nd Shift & 3rd Shift 7-3:30, 3:30-11, 11-7:00 AM

 

 

Position Overview

The Quality Engineer plays a key role in supporting National Electric Coil’s ISO 9001:2015-compliant manufacturing and service operations. This position ensures product integrity, regulatory compliance, and customer satisfaction through proactive quality assurance and control practices.

Reporting to the Quality Assurance Manager, the Quality Engineer is responsible for executing technical quality activities such as inspections. Engineers will participate as part of a crew supporting inspection, test and assessment of winding repair, winding upgrades and balancing of high-speed rotating electrical equipment. In addition, these inspectors will support an ISO 9001:2015 quality management system through hands-on inspections, process audits, and documentation. The role requires strong attention to detail, collaboration with cross-functional teams, and a commitment to continuous improvement in a high-performance manufacturing and service environment.

 

Essential Functions:

 

  • Conduct visual, mechanical, electrical, and dye (liquid) penetrant inspections
  • Perform dimensional and electrical testing, including hardness and non-destructive tests
  • Execute and document process audits
  • Record inspection data, including taking photographs
  • Track and identify inspected parts
  • Issue and document nonconformance reports
  • Assemble, review, and file job travelers/workbooks
  • Monitor calibration due dates and tool conditions
  • Coordinate with third-party contractors for calibration and NDT services
  • Support quality related field service work as required

 

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial),
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proficiency using handheld inspection tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, indicators)
  • Proficiency with electrical measurement tools (e.g., HiPot testers, multimeters, clamp meters)
  • Comfortable operating high-capacity electrical test equipment
  • Ability to follow documented work instructions and procedures
  • Team-oriented mindset
  • Availability to work overtime and weekends as needed
  • Intermediate proficiency level in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to travel to customer job sites (up to 20%); must have a passport for possible international travel

 

Preferred

• NDT Level I or higher

• ASQ certification (CQI, CQT, CQE, CQA, etc.)

• Familiarity with the ISO 9001:2015 standard (quality management systems)

  • Familiarity with inspection, quality control or quality assurance

 

Safety and Compliance

• Adhere to safety procedures and PPE requirements in all manufacturing and office environments.

 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time, hourly (non-exempt) position. The standard work schedule is a minimum of 50 hours per week; however, hours may vary based on business needs. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to support audits, production schedules, or urgent quality matters. This position requires the flexibility to rotate between 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts as needed. Travel may be required up to 20% of the time.
