Greetings ASQ Phoenix Section Members –
September was quite the whirlwind; much like I anticipate the remainder of the year to be. The Phoenix Section offered an in-person option at Rio Salado College for our monthly member meeting, I attended the Quality Innovations Summit in Baltimore, and planning for PHXCON and other member events through the end of the year are in full swing.
Our very own Nicole Dhanraj was the speaker for the September member meeting. Her presentation “Beyond Root Causes: Unleashing Success Through Positive Psychology and Change Management” put a spin on root cause analysis and suggested behaviors that can be implemented to ensure positive and lasting change. There were a handful of us in attendance on-site and a great showing of attendees online. If you have yet to watch Nicole’s presentation, I encourage you to access it on myASQ. The Quality Innovations Summit in Baltimore was amazing this year! It was the perfect time of year to visit Boston – especially for a resident of Phoenix! Temperatures were well below 100 degrees all week and there were even periods of rain due to a couple of storms just off the coast. The conference kicked off with a panel discussion on Tuesday afternoon regarding successful transitions into the future of quality. The full conference day included presentation topics such as resilience in quality cultures, the importance of quality data in innovation, and embracing a culture of quality for optimal performance. There were also multiple networking opportunities to connect with peers over refreshments. While it was an abbreviated conference, it did not lack in content or in opportunities to chat with friends both old and new. If you missed the conference this year, I encourage you to add it to your conference calendar for 2024!
PHXCON, the ASQ Phoenix Section’s first quality conference in over twenty years is just one month away (November 2nd and 3rd)! With a full line up of presenters who will be discussing topics that span across industries, it is a conference you do not want to miss this year! The conference will include Dr. Adaora Nelson, VP of Quality & Mission Assurance, RTX/Raytheon, a panel discussion comprised of quality, manufacturing and business experts from various industries and backgrounds who will be speaking on “The Future of Quality in an Evolving Workplace” including such topics as remote and hybrid work, industry 4.0/5.0, advanced manufacturing, agile and continuous improvement, DEIB and ESG, company culture, and performance excellence. We have selected 12 excellent papers for presentation in 3 tracks throughout the day. There will also be a poolside networking opportunity following the full conference day on November 3rd, with free hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. The ASQ Phoenix Section Education Committee is planning a Lean Six Sigma GB virtual short course miniseries for later this month, carrying into 2024. The first short course, “The Lean Six Sigma GB Project Charter” is being finalized for October 18 (3:00pm – 5:15pm). Future topics will include: LSS GB Define Phase Tollgate Tools, LSS GB Measure/Analyze Phase Tollgate Tools, and more. Be watching for additional details announcements via myASQ and Constant Contact email blasts.
Finally, the year will wrap up with a couple additional ASQ Phoenix Section member networking events. A community service event at Feed My Starving Children is scheduled for November 25th from 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. and will be followed by a networking lunch. We are also planning a wine tasting event at Cooper’s Hawk Winery in Glendale later this year.
