What is your current position? Quality Manager for Red Cross Blood Bank Foundation in Willemstad, Curaçao.
Are you involved in any ASQ Sections or Divisions? Yes, I am active in the Quality Management Division.
Which ASQ activities do you participate in? I am a contributor to the Influential Voices program, a technical reviewer for Quality Progress, a member of the Editorial Review Board for the Quality Management Forum, a reviewer for the ASQ WCQI, a Technical Program Committee Member (WCQI) and Chair Content Management Committee, section Management Elements, and Methods.
What was your introduction to quality? I was always in love with the quality, but it started for real in 2001, when the director of the Red Cross Blood Bank asked me to come work at the Blood Bank as a quality manager. That was one of the best decisions I've ever made.
Is there a teacher or mentor who influenced you more than others? Why? I have some great friends that inspired me to do more in quality. Marcelino de Lannoy inspired me to start my ASQ journey. I also started following two great quality bloggers, that also became my friends: Daniel Zrymiak and Jennifer Stepniowski. William "Will" LaFollette is an awesome friend and mentor who inspired me to become more active with ASQ.
What is the best career advice you've received? Expand your knowledge. Try to learn something new every single day. It does not matter if it is something small. For me, this is the ultimate embodiment of Continuous Improvement.
What are your favorite ways to relax? I enjoy going to the movies and getting lost in the stories. I am a baseball fan and love spending time with family and friends. Listening to music is always a surefire way to mellow me out. Funnily enough, I live on an island with beautiful beaches, but I'm not a beach fan, LOL!
What books are you currently reading? I got an old book from my niece: Quality Without Tears, The Art of Hassle-Free Management by Philip B. Crosby. It is great to go back to basics sometimes.
What is your favorite quality quote? Quality means doing it right when no one is looking.
