Topic: Nitinol and its Application in Medical Devices

 

The purpose of this presentation is to introduce nitinol (memory) metal and its variety of uses in the medical industry. Areas covered will include a brief history of nitinol, the properties of nitinol, the unique “memory” characteristics of nitinol, challenges in manufacturing and quality, and the where and why of using nitinol in the medical devices (including nitinol samples).


Featured Speaker: Scott Campbell.
Scott Campbell has a BS and MS in Biomedical Engineering and has worked in the medical field for over 12 years. Scott specializes in medical device product development with an emphasis on foot, ankle, extremity, and spinal orthopedics. He has worked as a component engineer at Memry Corporation which is a manufacturer of nitinol medical devices. He has also worked at Scottish Rite Hospital for Children side by side with physicians researching and designing custom pediatric orthopedic devices. Currently, Scott is a project manager at Gramercy Extremity Orthopedics where he most recently oversaw the development of the company’s (nitinol) bone staple system.

NOTE: Some remote sites may be cancelled if there are no participants or Site Liaisons available to host the location.
3. Remote Internet web conference: Please register using the “Remote Anywhere” option, and please contact Vikram Gaonkar at ‘mark4jon@yahoo.com’ when selecting this option for the web conference meeting link to be emailed to you. This option does NOT earn recertification units or a participation certificate.
