Dunwoody College of Technology has established a unique lean manufacturing laboratory to provide hands-on learning experience to its School of Engineering students. The objective to setup the laboratory is to provide students an experience of industry like environment in an academic setting. As a result, Briggs & Stratton engines are chosen as the final output of a simulated production assembly line in the laboratory. In addition, the students use 140-piece tool set to work on the engines. This webinar describes the process of setting up the lean manufacturing laboratory, the activities conducted each week, along with discussing the challenges, potential solutions and key lessons learnt.

About the Presenter:

Anuj Mittal is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Industrial Engineering Technology within the School of Engineering at Dunwoody College of Technology. He obtained his BE in electrical engineering from the University of Delhi, India, and MS and PhD in industrial engineering from Iowa State University. His research is focused on developing quantitative methodologies for the analysis and sustainable management of sociotechnical systems with current applications in regional food supply chains, renewable energy systems and food waste management. Anuj has worked on several federal and state funded projects to develop low cost information and communication technology solutions for regional food supply chains. He also actively researches on new problem-based and activity-based learning methods in engineering education. His email address is anujm.dce@gmail.com
