"How to Read & Interpret Calibration Certificates"
Abstract:
We encounter measurements in everyday life. In attempts to reduce risk and ensure better measurements, product manufacturers, testing labs, and calibration labs will have their measurement and test equipment calibrated so they can have their “sticker and a cert.” But how often do people actually read their calibration certificates? How many know what to look for and how to correctly interpret and use the information? Are we simply checking a box or are we really reducing their risk and ensuring better measurements?
This session is intended to familiarize attendees with ISO/IEC 17025 requirements for accredited calibration certificate details and learn how to read & interpret these calibration certificates. We will also explore what non-accredited calibration certificates may look like and evaluate the differences between different types of calibration certificates.
Learning how to interpret and evaluate data on calibration certificates can be used to ensure better measurements and to reduce risk of product or service recalls. Utilizing a quality tool, such as a checklist of items to be reviewed on a calibration certificate, can empower and propel people stronger feelings of competence, enjoy less rework, and build company confidence in their products and services.
Learning Objectives: Attendees will learn to:
1) understand what calibration is and why it is critical to everyday measurements,
2) read and interpret different types of calibration certificates, and
3) ensure better measurements and reduce risks within their organizations.
