Thirty Years of Industry-University Applied Research Activities: One Person’s Perspective and Journey Daryl L. Santos, Ph.D. SUNY Distinguished Service Professor Systems Science and Industrial Engineering Department T.J. Watson College of Engineering and Applied Science Binghamton University

Abstract

This presentation will provide a high-level summary of three decade’s worth of industry-university projects and partnerships from one person’s first-hand experience. The vast majority of the projects are highly relevant to ASQ as they typically center around product and process improvement, quality, and reliability. The speaker will also discuss the ecosystem created by the Watson Institute for Systems Excellence (WISE) that enables these types of industry- university partnerships to be mutually beneficial, not only to the industry sponsors and faculty-researchers involved, but perhaps even moreso for the graduate research assistants that are actively involved in the applied research.
