Topic of presentation:

Title: Crafting the Perfect Prompt for ChatGPT and AI Tools

Overview: There are several powerful AI tools at our disposal. Some businesses and organizations are starting to adopt them. However, one challenge is asking the right question or prompt to get a useful response. This takes time and could eventually become part of the quality management process. This session will 1) define AI prompts and examine a framework for developing strong prompts 2) provide a hands-on activity where attendees create prompts 3) share lessons learned from my experience developing prompts for AI tools.

Modern Quality Tools

By Steve Ross

This piece started out as a brief view of use of AI in quality auditing but along the way found that quality professionals will have new requirements overall as AI and machine learning become more widespread.

There will be a need to upskill with machine learning fundamentals, an understanding of how to manage large data sets and ultimately to either learn to program or have a close relationship with those who are integrating AI solutions into the QMS. Machine learning is part of the AI domain and uses algorithms to identify patterns and relationships using historical data to make predictions and, in some cases, independent decision making.

The author attended an ML seminar during WCQI, and it was eye-opening how complicated it really is. Many mathematical methods are used to collect, clean, classify and make the data set appropriate to the conditions it is monitoring. In most cases a data scientist will be needed to know which algorithms to apply.  A minimum of 500 data points is needed to train the model and with 10,000 a more reliable outcome is achieved.

Data analytics uses data and statistical techniques to predict future quality outcomes in manufacturing for example. It uses some similar approaches to ML, in data collection, predictive modeling and decision making. This is a tool which quality professionals will be using in the near future. Also, like ML, it will require an upskilled quality person knowledgeable in domain expertise and statistical tools. This would be especially useful in the area of nonconformance resolution. There is such a gray area of answers to the issues found on the factory floor, and a more scientific approach to the solution would be beneficial. While the auditor may find the problem, it is possible that he/she is the upskilled quality person in the section also.
