Root Cause Analysis: Applying Tools in the Toolbox

Effective Root Cause Analysis relies on the successful application of quality tools.  This Five (5) hour workshop will cover basic tools individuals and teams can use to identify and confirm a root cause or causes have been identified and seek solutions to address the root cause (s) to return process and system performance to previous levels.  In addition, the tools will be placed in the context of a problem-solving system enabling more effective results. 

The workshop will utilize lectures, discussions, examples, and exercises to equip participants with knowledge and practical experience in using the tools effectively.  Tools covered in the workshop include: Run Chart, Control Chart, Check Sheet, Pareto Chart, Is / Is Not, Problem Definition, Cause and Effect Diagram, and 5 Whys, and Decision Matrix.

Join Steve, in person, as he discusses with you how to: 

-       Identify and define basic quality tools that can be used to identify and confirm a root cause (or causes) have been identified,

-       Describe where and how each of the tools can be used as part of a root cause analysis,

-       Use key tools to identify and address a problem’s root cause, and do a deep dive into one or two

Who should attend?  Any quality-minded individual who wants to understand how to identify and use problem-solving tools, leveraging the structured investigation process to uncover the underlying factors or root causes behind problems.

Steve Czarniak, The Czarniak Group

The Czarniak Group is dedicated to helping individuals, teams, and organizations improve processes and systems by applying data analytic and project management tools, methods, processes, and systems.  Previously, Steve led the Boston Scientific Project Management Center of Excellence to inform, connect, and advance the role of project management in the company.  In addition to Project Management, Steve has extensive experience managing and leading organizational Process Improvement and Problem-Solving Methodologies to drive organizational and customer value.  Steve teaches, consults, coaches, and mentors individuals and teams for project management, process improvement, and problem-solving throughout operations, product and process development, and business functions.  Steve was instrumental in developing and deploying Boston Scientific’s Value Improvement Process initiative and their Process Improvement, Problem-Solving and Six Sigma Training programs.  Steve has taught hundreds of engineers, technicians, individual contributors, and managers Problem-Solving, Process Improvement, and Project Management.  Steve has an MS in Statistics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, is a certified Six Sigma Black Belt, and holds a Project Management Professional (PMP)® certification.
