Presentation by Dr. Herman Tang, Expanding COQ: Concept and Exploration of Total COQ.

Abstract:

This presentation is a continuation of the “Review of Cost of Quality Models and Introduction to Total COQ” delivered to ASQ Quality Management Division on September 24. It offers a brief review of traditional COQ models, including the PAF and PCM. The presentation then introduces and explores the innovative Total COQ model, a comprehensive framework that extends beyond quality by incorporating often-overlooked indirect costs that significantly affect a company's financial performance. The discussion emphasizes the importance of these hidden costs, the difficulties involved in their quantification, and how this holistic model offers a more complete understanding of quality’s true impact on business operations and profitability. The session concludes with a practical case study, illustrating the model’s real-world application as an effective tool for driving continuous improvement and achieving operational excellence.
