Presentation Title: Quality on Tap – From Process to Pint, Brewing Defect Free. From Mike Aston
Mike Aston is The Director of Quality for United Alloy Inc. in Janesville, WI. He has over 30 years of experience in quality roles working primarily with metal fabrication organizations. Mike holds Advanced Technical Certificates in both Quality Improvement and Reliability and Maintainability. He is an ASQ CMQ/OE, CQE and CQT. He has been an active ASQ member since 1995 and an ASQ Board Member with ASQ Section 1205 since 2004.
His Homebrewing journey started in 2012 when his wife, Lori, bought him a Mr. Beer Homebrew Kit. (Big Mistake?) After a few 2-gallon extract batches with the Mr. Beer kit, he upgraded to BIAB (Brew in a bag) hybrid batches, then there was an update to 5-gallon propane All Grain Batches, which later morphed into 10-gallon propane batches and finally an upgrade in 2025 to 1bbl electric brewing complete with glycol chilled double walled fermenters. His passion/obsession with brewing and quality has yielded multiple award-winning beers including a recent First Round Silver Medal in the 2026 National Homebrew Competition.
