About Hoster Brewing Baking Company Hoster Brewing was founded in 1836 in Columbus, Ohio and became a regional production brewing powerhouse until it fell victim to Prohibition. The brand was revived in the 1990s as a brewpub on South High Street, but market conditions caused it to shutter in the early 2000s. For several years, the flagship Gold Top Dortmunder-style lager was contract-brewed and distributed throughout Columbus. Then in April 2025, Managing Partner Dan Meyers realized his vision of relaunching this famous Columbus brand when the current production brewery and taproom opened on the Eastside of Columbus. Just like in the old days, Hoster’s focus is on traditional European beer styles, primarily from the German, Czech, and Belgian brewing traditions. The four core brands are: Gold Top, Vienna Lager, Eagle Dark (dark Czech-style lager), and White Label (American Light Lager). We offer many more varieties in our cozy taproom, as well as a gluten-free Hard Seltzer. In 2024 Hoster won a gold medal for our Belgian Dubbel at the US Open Beer Championship. In 2025 Hoster received Untapped Community Awards for Gold Top (Bronze), German Pils (Silver), and Bière de Garde (Bronze). The brewhouse offers ultimate flexibility with three separate, different sized, brewing systems: 15 US barrels (bbl), 5 bbl, and a 1 bbl pilot system. This way, the brewing team can make the right-sized batch of beer for any purpose. Hoster is known for brewing the traditional way, with direct flame (as opposed to indirect heat). The initial focus of the current Hoster Brewing was taproom service. The brewery is now increasing draft beer distribution in and around Columbus, with plans to bottle the core brands later this year. Notes:
