TITLE: The Frugal Experimenter
ABSTRACT:
A sequential approach to experimentation can be used to minimize the number of required experimental trials. Beginning with a highly confounded design, the hierarchical ordering principle and the effect heredity principles are leveraged to eliminate higher order interactions, and interactions with corresponding main effects that are not statistically significant. This allows confounding to be resolved with a minimum number of additional trials. Finally, by adding center points a response surface can be developed. This methodology will be demonstrated with a simulated model and a real-world example.
