About the Presentation:
Title: New Approaches For Ensuring Counterfeit-Free Quality
Prolonged lead times with tier 1 component suppliers during COVID had many OEMs stuck with $100,000 vehicles and electronic systems unable to ship because they didn’t have necessary components. Often integrated circuit components under $10 were the reason for holding up large shipments. This situation forced OEMs and Contract Manufacturers to go through component resellers (brokers) as it was often the fastest way to get the needed parts. Going through non-Authorized distributors greatly increases the risk of having a counterfeit component Just one counterfeit component leads to field failures which results in loss of life, engineers losing their jobs, permanent damage to company reputation, and very expensive lawsuits. Adam showcase different offerings recently made available to reduce the risk of counterfeit microchips.
About Our Speaker:
Adam Hook is a Senior Principal Component Quality Engineer at Harvard Bioscience, where he spearheads electronics supplier quality and oversees internal quality for device box builds. He plays a key role in design reviews, ensuring the manufacturability of bare boards and circuit assemblies. Adam has previous experience with two OEMs and two CMs. He holds certifications as an IPC Trainer, SMT Process Engineer, Interconnect Designer, and is certified in both Altium and Mentor Graphics. Earlier this year, his 19-page paper was published by IEEE, with his findings presented at the Pan Pacific Electronics Symposium and as a keynote speaker at the SMTA Forum & Tech Expo. Today he will be presenting findings from that paper and unveiling a free-to-download Counterfeit Mitigation Procedure geared towards the MedTech industry. This procedure was developed in collaboration with a senior-level component engineer from the aerospace industry.
