Bio - Lindsay Peters
Lindsay has a Bachelor's of Clinical Laboratory Science and is a certified Specialist in Blood Banking. She has spent her career in hospital transfusion service, blood center reference laboratory, distribution, customer relations, and now quality. During her 16-year career she has been focused on trying to understand the challenges of blood banking from different perspectives to make a positive impact on operations. She currently sits as the Vice President on the Board of Directors for South Central Association of Blood Banks. Her passion is teaching others about transfusion medicine and blood bank. She has previously taught college level blood banking students and has presented on many topics at regional conferences and education events.
Summary -
The Quality Assurance systems in the blood banking industry exist to promote overall blood safety and availability for transfusion and other services. Areas of focus include evaluating risk, meeting regulatory requirements, monitoring product quality, ensuring processes are validated, product traceability from donor to recipient and carrying out corrective actions when events occur. There are many tools used in the blood banking industry that resemble tools used in traditional manufacturing industries.
