EDGe Partnership Event: Inter-disciplinary Review (IDR) for the Quality of Design

When:  Jul 19, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 01:00 PM (ET)
Associated with  Government Division
Description: Complex projects consist of several design disciplines that need to be coordinated, and integrated into the Final Design. To adequately assess the impact of individual discipline design on the other disciplines, a quality review must be performed that is cross-disciplinary in nature. This review is called the Inter-disciplinary Review (IDR). It is a peer Quality Control (QC) review with a focus outside of the primary designer’s area of expertise. For a good final design, the design must be reviewed and accepted by all disciplines that are involved with it.

What makes these quality reviews more challenging than others are different domains, competing requirements of different disciplines, and also communication challenges. Poor quality of IDR’s frequently results in poor designs that eventually need to be changed later during construction. This adds time delays to the projects as well as budget overruns. In this webinar, we will discuss the application of IDR, the challenges, the best practices, and the typical failures that occur in a majority of the complex projects.
Presenter: Tariq Masud is a senior manager with Parsons Corporation, an engineering design and construction management firm that works for federal, regional, and local government agencies as well as private customers worldwide. Tariq is also the chairperson of the Buildings & Construction Committee for the American Society for Quality-Design & Construction Division. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in the USA and Canada, is certified by the ASQ and PMI in various disciplines.
