  • 1.  BRC - GFSI - question on 1.2.1 wording - help please! :)

Hello!  I recently had our annual British Retail Consortium (BRC) Food Safety audit and one of the findings was in regard to section 1.2.1 - The company shall have an organizational chart demonstrating the management structure of the company.  The responsibilities for the management of activities which ensure food safety, legality and quality shall be clearly allocated and understood by the managers responsible.  It shall be clearly documented who deputizes in the absence of the responsible person.  We have an org chart, but the finding was specifically around clearly documenting who is deputized.  My question is, how do other companies word this?  I plan on having it added to my quality manual, but I'm struggling with how best to phrase this.  As the Director of Quality, I'm, the responsible person, but that can also include the President of my company as well...especially in the eyes of the FDA.

    Thanks for any suggestions provided!

You can separately indicate it in any documented information, may be add it in roles and responsibilities, employee contracts, responsibility matrix or any. The main concept here you have to provide documented evidence that, who deputizes in the absence of responsible person.

Actually, we have responsibility's matrix which indicated cross responsibilities in the absence situation for critical staffs (employees who has direct impact on quality, environment, safety, finance).
