March is Women’s History Month, and across the globe today, communities are celebrating International Women’s Day. The themes of this year’s recognitions prompt our deeper reflection on women’s impact on our world. But this is a post on myASQ so my focus will be upon THIS society and an opportunity for a woman to volunteer her time and effort in a high-level leadership position within the Society.
I was in my office last month and saw a picture taken in Milwaukee 10 years ago that caused me to pause a moment. In 2013 and 2014 I had the pleasure of serving on the ASQ Board of Directors with Chava Scher who served as ASQ Treasurer during those years. She was a well-known quality leader in her home country and a devoted grandmother who I enjoyed having conversations with her about life halfway around the world from me.
I thought further about Chava and her role on the board. I reached out to a couple of Past ASQ Presidents to see if they knew of any other woman who had served as Treasurer for the Society during their tenure. They came up blank. Unless someone knows differently, Chava has been the only female to hold the office of Treasurer in the over 75 years of ASQC and ASQ.
Having held the Treasurer position in 2020, I would state the primary role is one of oversight and to serve as Chair of the ASQ Audit Committee. You are also an officer in the Society and serve on the Executive Committee. But as an earlier treasurer told me, “You do not hold the ASQ checkbook” so you really do not have an accounting degree, just a willingness to work with the CFO and the Financial Management team.
Thus, on this day I raise this challenge to all the women who are Senior Members in the Society. IF you have an interest in the finances of ASQ and have the time to serve on the Board of Directors for one year as Treasurer, please give serious thought of applying this summer for the 2025 Treasurer position or in the near future. ASQ is stronger with a diverse set of members in all elected roles within the Society.

That's great to read it. Respect!
