Studying statistical analysis for manufacturing quality through ASQ

Posted by Dan Goldstein on Dec 1, 2018 6:49 pm

I’m a member with a CQA (recertified in December 2017). I studied basic statistical analysis, sampling, etc. for the exam in 2014. I’m interested in expanding my knowledge, especially with regard to process variation in manufacturing quality. ASQ offers a course in SPC Implementation (https://asq.org/training/spc-implementation-spc) and also in Black Belt/Quality Engineering Statistics (https://asq.org/training/black-beltquality-engineering-statistics-bbqes). Would either of these courses be appropriate for me, given the time that's passed since I studied for the exam?

Hi,

Before you PAY for anything, perhaps you should avail yourself to the FREE resources available through the Member Gift Bundles.
http://asq.org/membership/members/gift/

Also, be sure to check out the content on the Communities pages on myASQ.  I recommend the Six Sigma Forum pages.

Before you take a course, check out YouTube for the online tutorials.  This is a 10 minute video from the ASQ Statistics Division.

I agree with Daniel Zrymiak‍, there are so many great free resources to start with before you pay for anything.

The cost isn't a problem -- this is paid for and encouraged by my employer. Also, the fact that it's a live course with a certificate matters to my employer. Obviously, if someone has taken either of these courses and has had a negative experience, that would be important to know. But if someone has had a *positive* experience, then the question remains: Would either of these courses be appropriate for me, given the time that's passed since I studied for the CQA exam?

Dan Goldstein, I took the Black Belt/Quality Engineering Statistics class several years ago and learned a lot. At the time, the instructor used Minitab and we had instructional copies to use.

There is no way to cover everything in a 40-hour class. And that said, there is nothing like prepping with the free resources that Dan Zrymiak referred to.
