Distorted View: Applying Bayesian reasoning to misconceptions about COVID-19

In ill-informed, misguided attempts to explain the COVID-19 outbreak, many constructed an inaccurate causal inference about the country where the virus was first reported and people of Asian descent increasing the chance of getting or spreading the virus. This created harmful stereotypes toward Asians and Asian Americans.

To disprove the stereotypes, the authors of “Distorted View” show how a simple probabilistic Bayes’ rule can combat these misconceptions and make sense of a very complex situation.

Great topic. Thanks. Trying to be more of a statistical thinker and this article is a great read to help with that and is of interest to me. Fortunately I have not been ill-informed even without the statistics.
