Quality Progress: Please consider dedicating an article or an entire QP issue to the following statement made by Lindsay Pietenpol, assistant editor, “You can't get a degree in quality, so the ways people wind up in the field vary.” No institute in the world offers a degree in Quality Management, Quality Assurance, or Quality Control? Thank you, Dirk van Putten

Loyola University used to offer an MA in Quality a few years ago. I attempted to apply I think during the transition of them deleting the course in their curriculum. It took me several attempts and a lot of queries before I finally gave up and realized the degree was no longer available. I was very disappointed.

This is a great topic! I am an instructor at a local community college in the Engineering and Industrial Technology department. We work with area industry to make certain we are meeting the needs of the industry. The number one gap that is noted is "Quality Management" in the curriculum of most degrees. We have made significant progress in integrating quality concepts into both individual courses as well as specific dedicated courses within each major.

I do see advanced degrees starting to surface in the area of Operational Excellence. I have not inquired as to the curriculum, however, I would hope these degrees are in line with the career path of Quality Management / Operational Excellence. I am in full support of the need for advanced degrees in area of Quality Management!
