Duke Okes:
Amen to that, Danny. There's really nothing new other than an increase in digitalization enabled by wireless, etc.
The same is true with the analytics/data science label. It's just statistics!
The fascinating thing for the quality profession is we already have most of what is necessary for the Industrial Transformation and the related flavors: problem solving, critical thinking, collaboration, analytics, ethics. There does need to be an updating of large partsof those, for example collaboration, but in general we have the pieces and it's really about amping it up, and forming connections.
Take the connected worker, one of the big concepts that gets touted a lot. As the below graphic shows, its usually more about the what than the how. Don't get me wrong, we have to spend a lot of time on the how, but this is a definite opportunity for us as quality professionals to rise to the occasion.
Quality 4.0 is an exciting bunch of stuff. And it's a great banner to show how the quality profession can be the standard bearers for this transformation.
