In the competitive industries of the current global economy, trial and error methods have been rightfully abandoned for more efficient forms of experimentation and development. Be that as it may, experimental methods often have conflicting results. In many cases, product systems are not understood. As such, it is often difficult to select the best variables for testing. P-Diagram’s offer a simple method for modeling a complex system using the foundation of an ideal function while differentiating variables into control factors and noise factors. The P-Diagram model can be applied to a multitude of systems. As part of this presentation, the construction of P-Diagrams will be presented along with case studies.

Edward J. Vinarcik, P.E., is the Field Quality Manager for Commercial Transportation of Hydro Extrusion North America. Mr. Vinarcik began his carrier as a child casting metal in his basement. In 1993, he received his Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering from The Ohio State University. Since graduation, Vinarcik has studied lean enterprise methods & quality disciplines. He is certified by the American Society for Quality as a Quality Manager, Quality Engineer, & Six Sigma Blackbelt. In addition, Mr. Vinarcik has completed separate master's degrees in Quality Control and Business Administration. Prior to working in management, he has served roles in supplier quality, product design, and manufacturing. In 2006 to 2009, he accepted a position with Bosch in China as a metallurgical laboratory and prototype shop manager. Mr. Vinarcik served as the Quality & Technical Manager with a green field extrusion facility building a business & quality management system based on ANSI and ASTM standards using the business MRP system as a foundation for record collection. Beyond his formal employment, Mr. Vinarcik is a writer, publishing a book titled High Integrity Die Casting Processes, & contributing chapters to Taguchi's Quality Engineering Handbook as well as the ASM Metals Handbook. In 2006, he was named a fellow of ASM International.
