Talkin’ About My Generation: Exploring How to Manage Generational Differences in the Workplace

Learners will have the opportunity to explore generational differences to better understand what make the other generations “tick.” Additionally, they will identify strategies they can use to increase communication and understanding among generations.

Outcomes: By the end of the class, participants will be able to:

• Recognize the historical perspective of generational differences.

• Identify categories of generations currently in the workplace.

• Seek answers for why certain generations might engage in behavior frustrating to another generation.

• Describe the positive attributes of each generation.

• Explain strategies for increasing communication and understanding from one generation to another.

Who: Linda Brain Beck

Linda Brain Beck has a varied career history that allows her to easily move between the academic and corporate worlds. Linda holds a bachelor’s degree in Speech Communications from Millersville University and a master’s degree in Psychoeducational Processes from Temple University.

After a successful career in the corporate training world, she has served as an adjunct faculty member at several central Pennsylvania colleges. She specializes in communications classes, including public speaking, business writing and small group communication at the associates, bachelor’s, and master’s levels. Linda has won several awards for her excellence in teaching.

In addition to teaching, Linda consults with area businesses on leadership and communication skills training. She is also a certified Dale Carnegie instructor.

Linda’s current interests lie is social media fact checking, civility and depolarization. As a result, she has been invited to speak at numerous conferences and participate in a panel discussion on WITF’s Smart Talk. She was also selected to present at TEDx Harrisburg in 2017 and was the commencement speaker at HACC’s 2019 commencement.

She is a moderator and co-director of the national Ambassador program for Braver Angels, an organization dedicated to depolarization in the United States.
