What: Civility in a Fast-Paced, Social Media-Driven World

What’s the relationship between social media and an apparent lack of manners in our society? What can consumers of social media do to promote online civility? Is that even possible or is civility an antiquated idea in the age of technology? These questions and more will be explored in this presentation that will discuss the application of civility in a modern world.


Who: Linda Beck, M. Ed., Communications & Leadership Consultant

Linda Beck is a HACC Adjunct Faculty member who has taught COMM 101 for the past 18 years. Her recent interest in social media fact checking has led to various community presentations, including the opportunity to be a keynote speaker at several town hall meetings sponsored by the Pennsylvania Media Association. She has also appeared on WITF’s Smart Talk and given a presentation at TEDx Harrisburg on that topic. In addition to teaching at HACC, she teaches at several other local colleges, consults on a variety of business and leadership issues. She co-directs the national Ambassador program for Braver Angels, an organization dedicated to depolarization in the United States.
