Impacts of Quality on the Emerging Legal Cannabis Industry

Regina Fullin

Due to its history as an illegal enterprise, the Cannabis industry has been marginalized, creating a business environment that has driven away legitimate professionals. This de-professionalization of the industry has de-legitimized a potentially life-enhancing product because there has historically been no dedication to quality principles in its development, marketing, sale, and use. Passage of two key marijuana bills, one to permit its marketing, and another to permit scientific study of its compounds, has introduced the world of Quality to this industry. This presentation will provide an overview of the science of cannabis, the problems presented by rapid regulatory changes in the industry, and how cannabis industry professionals will need to adapt to a field in which quality becomes a new "NORML."
