Richard Blevins, Director of the Aviation Technology Department at Northeast State Community College, will provide the ASQ Section 1106 program.

Richard will update ASQ members on the very successful Aviation Technology program at Northeast State Community College. The update will be followed by a tour of the newly refurbished Aviation Technology hangar instruction facility at Tri-Cities Airport. The Aviation Technology training program is designed to prepare students for employment in the aviation maintenance or aviation repair industry. Northeast State is the only community college in Tennessee with a FAA certified Airframe and Powerplant Program, and the only college in the state with an Avionics Program. There is a high demand for graduates. Enrollment is at capacity with a waiting list.

The Northeast State Aviation Technology program is essential workforce training for recruiting aviation firms to Aerospace Park at Tri-Cities Airport. Aerospace Park has the potential for providing as many as 2,000 good-paying aviation jobs. The program at Northeast State was recently recognized as the only community college in Tennessee having FAA Airframe and Powerplant certification. This presentation is significant for ASQ Section 1106 members since an ASQ tour of Bell Helicopter in Piney Flats in February 2013 identified the need for region aviation maintenance training. This led to the Aviation Technology program at Northeast State Community College.
