Sustaining a Quality Culture at NextEra Energy: 40 years and Counting
NextEra Energy is the World’s Largest Producer of Wind and Solar Energy and is the parent of Florida Power and Light. Headquartered right here in South Florida, their Quality Improvement Program (QIP) had its origins in 1981. Born out of internal shortcomings and a difficult economy, the company’s leadership reached out to successful enterprises outside the utility world to fix their business and improve customer satisfaction, including Disney, Komatsu, and Toyota. The changes employed in the 1980’s are the foundation of FPL/NextEra’s successful quality program today. The objective of this presentation is to share this history and identify the factors that sustained this program for over forty years. We will also examine the critical factors that are essential to any continuous improvement program, regardless of the industry.
With members and customers in over 130 countries, ASQ brings together the people, ideas and tools that make our world work better.
