Topic: Gage R&R Re-examined: When is a Measurement System Acceptable?

Abstract: This presentation discusses the latest thinking in how to assess results of Gage R&R studies. Criteria for assessment of measurement systems used in most Six Sigma training is based on AIAG guidelines which have provided an excellent resource for establishing a rigorous approach to Measurement System Analysis (MSA). However, some of the rules used for determining measurement system acceptability may not be applicable across all applications. These rules have become defaults in standard software packages, and some who use those packages may not be aware of their limitations. This presentation will identify strengths and weaknesses of these rules and provide information on alternative rules developed by Dr. Donald Wheeler that have a sound statistical foundation but can provide very different conclusions from the AIAG rules.
