ASQ Raleigh Six Sigma Special Interest Group meeting -- June 15, 2021

Our guest speaker Steve Feltovich will give a presentation titled "The Misconception of Lean Pertaining to Quality."

Why have so many companies that pursued lean derailed before achieving their goals?
We will address the most common oversimplified definition of lean: “a set of ‘tools’ for eliminating waste.”
Why do so many companies still struggle with the proven principles and management philosophy of the Toyota Production System, a.k.a. lean?
The Toyota Philosophy is the Deming Philosophy.
Are Deming’s 14 Management Points Still Relevant?

It’s time to revisit W. Edwards Deming’s leadership and management training in four interrelated areas:
1. Appreciation for a System – Systems and Process Thinking
2. Knowledge of Variation – Common Causes and Special Causes, Variety of Variation
3. Theory of Knowledge – Comprehensive Understanding of Deming’s 14 Points for Management
4. Psychology – How People are Influenced by Management
