ASQ Raleigh Six Sigma & Life Sciences Special Interest Group Meeting -- May 19, 2020
2
This virtual meeting will be of interest to both the Six Sigma and Life Sciences interest groups.  Our speaker, Byron Wingerd, is a long-time member and supporter of the ASQ Raleigh Section.  He is a JMP Life Sciences Systems Engineer at SAS and has given many talks to our members on statistical methods in Six Sigma and life sciences applications.

Title
Visualizing COVID-19 Data: Pitfalls and blindspots in representing hot data.

Abstract
In this talk I will take you on a graphic tour of one of the most graphed data sets that has been curated by Johns Hopkins. As the pandemic spread, the graphics used to tell the story were continually refined to try to represent data without unintentional bias. We will look at the pitfalls of presenting data on maps, and the traps that assumptions about the data will lead to.

Byron Wingerd
JMP Life Sciences Systems Engineer, SAS
I help people understand how to apply data science and statistics to learn more from their data to make better decisions in the life science and pharmaceutical industry.
