Sterilization 101 for Medical Devices

Sterilization 101 for Medical Devices are two comprehensive 2-day sessions covering essential information on sterilization technologies and methods, sterilization standards, FDA requirements, critical factors in product design and product release decisions, and much more.

This is a perfect learning opportunity for individuals new to the medical device industry or new to sterilization processes. Experienced quality personnel will also benefit by getting up-to-date information on the two most widely used methods for sterilizing medical devices. Participants will learn about ethylene oxide (EO) and radiation sterilization processes, how to understand and apply the principles of sterilization to address requirements such as product bioburden and those based on combined bioburden/overkill methods.
The course has two separate sessions of 2 days each, allowing participation in either, or both courses – Ethylene Oxide (EO) and Radiation sterilization.

Class approach
   This highly interactive program combines lecture with situational analyses that provide participants with the opportunity to apply what they learn to actual sterilization scenarios. In addition, participants will work through a series of case studies illustrating problematic situations. Case studies will cover various aspects and phases of sterilization processes.
    Class materials will be provided as part of this training offering.
    Classes will be provided virtually via Zoom and the invite will be sent to you prior to the training.

Instructor:  Lisa Foster
Lisa Foster began her medical device career at Sterigenics in 1989 where she held positions of VP Quality Assurance and VP Lab and Consulting Services. She served as Co-Chair to AAMI/ISO/TC 198/WG2 Radiation Sterilization Working Group from 2004 – 2014 and has represented the US as an ISO delegate to ISO/TC198/WG2 since 2004, served as co-chair to AAMI/TC 198/WG2 TIR 35 Revision and is a Task Group Member of ISO 11137-3 and 11137-4, she is an active member of the AAMI WG 1, Industrial EO, and a member of the AAMI Sterilization Standards committee. She currently also serves as the Senior Staff Engineer for MedAccred, an independent certification organization for the sterilization industry. She has owned and operated Adiuvo Consulting since 2012.
